In order to protect the safety of cultural relics and tourists in the Forbidden City, starting August 29, the security department is checking people for drinks taken with them before they enter the museum.

If tourists bring in drinks suspected to contain alcohol, they are required some of it. If it does have alcohol in it, the drink will be kept temporarily by the staff for the duration of the person's visit.

Mineral water and soft drinks are allowed into the Forbidden City because they do not cause the security problems to tourists and cultural relics.
